TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Several members of the Rutgers men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Tallahassee, Fla. to participate in the 2008 NCAA East Regional on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31, on the campus of Florida State University.

On the men's side, junior Brandon Burkhardt (Dallas, Pa.) paced the Scarlet Knights as he finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 215' 7". The performance improved Burkhardt's chances of earning an at-large selection to the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa from June 11-14. A student-athlete can automatically qualify for the championships with a top-five performance in an individual event (top-three for relay).

Freshmen Jeremy Pennino (Watchung, N.J.) and Chris Bradley (Nutley, N.J.) also competed in the javelin with Pennino finishing 25th (189' 8"), while Bradley placed 28th (185' 5"). In other field events, junior Brian Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied for 12th in the pole vault, clearing a height of 16' 1 1/4". Sophomore Nick Crosta (Toms River, N.J.) took part in the high jump but did not record a height in the event.

On the track, a number Scarlet Knights participated in the preliminaries of their respective events.
